Dr. A Surya Prakash is a renowned columnist and author, and a leading voice on National governance, including constitutional and parliamentary issues. He’s nationally recognized for his pioneering work on the Parliament, as well as his meticulously researched interventions on important national issues.

He currently operates as the head of Prasar Bharati, and throughout his career, has held some of the most prominent positions in several print and electronic media organizations in the country over the last 45 years. He’s worked as the Editor at Zee News, Executive Editor at The Pioneer, Political Editor at Eenadu Group of Newspapers, India Editor at Asia Times (in Bangkok and Singapore), and Chief of Bureau at The Indian Express, New Delhi. His Columns appear regularly still, in The New Indian Express, The Pioneer, Dainik Jagran, Eenadu, The Prameya, Prajavani and Dinamani.

He’s authored significant and noteworthy books regarding Indian Parliament. Most notable What Ails Indian Parliament, published in 1995 by Indus, an imprint of HarperCollins, which is hailed as the most definitive text on the working of India’s Parliament after W.H. Morris-Jones Parliament in India, published in 1957. Alongside of that, he’s also authored Public Money, Private Agenda – The Use and Misuse of MPLADS, and The Emergency – Indian Democracy’s Darkest Hour, and chapters in other prominent books such as Need to Regulate the Working of Political Parties, Fifty Years of Indian Parliament, Parliamentary Questions as Instruments of Accountability and The Indian Parliament – A Comparative Perspective.

He’s is Member of the Advisory Council, at the Vivekananda International Foundation, a New Delhi based Think-Tank and the Director at India Foundation, New Delhi. He is also a Member of the Executive Council, Nehru Memorial Museum & Library, New Delhi and Member of the Board of Governors, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

He is also recipient of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award; the Sardar Patel Fellowship from the Institute of Policy Studies; the Karnataka Patrika Academy Award; the Bipan Chandra Pal Sanman for Fearless Journalism and a fellowship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation to study the working of Standing Committees of German Bundestag in 1993, acting as a keen observer of the working of the German and British Parliaments.
